Q:  What is an MP3?
A:

MP3 is short for Motion Picture Experts Group Audio Layer 3 (MPEG Audio Layer 3) and it is a music file that has been compressed so that it can be downloaded and shared easily. It is a standard for music distribution over the web.

Q:  Where do I get the MP3 players to play my downloaded MP3 files?
A:

To play downloaded MP3 files, you will need one of these free music players installed on your computer.
• Download RealOne Player for Windows, Macs or Unix
• Download Windows Media Player for Windows or Macs
• Download Nullsoft's WinAmp Player
• Download Quinnware's Quintessential Player for Windows

Q:  How long does it take to download an MP3 file?
A:

An MP3 file of 2-3 MB will take:
• Less than 1 minute for Broadband (T1, DSL, ISDN, cable modem)
• 10-15 minutes for 56 kbps dial-up modem

Actual download time may vary depending on the MP3 file size, your system set-up, site server and network traffic.

Please note that the time (in minutes) listed by each song is how long the song will play. It is NOT how long it will take the MP3 file to download to your computer.

Q:  Can I get a better quality recording of an MP3 song?
A:

All MP3 files on this web site are encoded at 80 kbps (kilo-bits per second) and hence, are of medium quality. For higher quality recordings at 128 kbps or higher, you will have to visit the songwriter's web site where you may find a higher quality version to buy or download.

Due to our limited server storage capacity, we are unable to share the better quality versions with you since they take up more space and take longer to download. We appreciate any monetary donations that can help in the operation of this web site and this project.

Q:  My MP3 file does not play on my computer?
A:

There are many reasons why your downloaded MP3 file is not playing. Your speakers might not be plugged in, or the volume might be set to mute. Try out an MP3 file that you know works to make sure it is not the MP3 player. If the MP3 player works and only certain MP3 files are not working, then you should try re-downloading the MP3s.

Q:  Are MP3s legal?
A:

MP3 is just a file format. MP3s by themselves are perfectly legal. If you rip MP3s from a CD that you own and use it for your personal entertainment, it is legal. However, it is illegal to trade MP3s or give MP3s away to friends without the permission of the copyright holder.

We have obtained permission from the songwriters to share the MP3 files that are on this web site. They can be downloaded and used for your personal enjoyment only. Please do not re-distribute the MP3 files without the songwriter's consent.

Q:  I require more help with downloading or listening to these songs.

Q:  Where can I buy the CDs of some of the songs that are featured on this web site?
A:

Since we have no plans to release a compilation CD of songs from this project, you can either buy CDs from the artist's web site or buy one of the peace-theme CDs that are featured in our Peace CDs section.
