Q:  What is the objective of this project?
A:

The objective of this UNESCO-endorsed project is to encourage people to think about peace, define what it means to them, and write a new song for peace. This project is in response to the UN proclamation that the 2001-2010 decade be the "International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence for the Children of the World".

The seed for this project was planted in 1999 and we hope to watch it grow for many years to come. Although this project was not created in response to recent tensions in the world, we feel that our project's message needs to be heard most at this time.

Q:  What kind of impact do you hope to achieve with this project?
A:

Although this project will not resolve some of the greater challenges of world poverty, hunger and conflicts, we feel that world peace is the foundation to build on.

Music is a universal language that transcends boundaries and cultures, and is enjoyed by everyone. This project allows music artists and songwriters to participate and contribute to the growing voice for peace around the world. It also allows others to be inspired by these songs and the messages they carry.

We are heartened and encouraged by instances where this project has had a small impact; from a 4th grade elementary class performing "One Love, One World" in California, USA, to a radio DJ in Guyana, Africa, playing some of these songs on their radio.

Note: For more on the 4th grade class performance, please read the story in our 2003 December newsletter.

Q:  How are you funded?
A:

We are a small non-profit organization that is funded solely by donations and managed by volunteers. All donations go towards the operation of this project and this web site. When the book of peace songs is published, we intend to offer the book at no charge, less shipping and handling. If you would like to make a donation to the project, please click here.

As a donor, your name will be added to the list of Financial Contributors unless you wish to remain anonymous. This is our way of thanking you for your generous support.

Q:  How can I help if I am not a songwriter or artist?
A:

Link to us and help spread our project's message.
Tell your friends and share these peace songs with them.
Make a donation so that we can keep this project funded.
Contact the songwriter(s) or artist(s) of songs you like on this web site and thank them for getting involved in this project. It will be greatly appreciated.
Contact songwriters/recording artists you know and invite them to participate.
Support the songwriter(s) or artist(s) by buying their CDs. Most of the songwriters have their own web sites which you can visit and buy CDs from.

Q: Is this a safe site i.e. no viruses, pop-ups or advertising?
A:

Yes, this is a very safe site for browsing. All the MP3s on our site can be downloaded and listened to safely. We do not support or condone pop-up ads; however, please note that all external links from our site will open up in a new browser window. We do this so that you can visit an artist's web site and then return to our site to continue browsing.

We also do not have any product advertisement on our site and hence, we are not funded by advertising. We have a strict policy of not promoting any artist, CD or product in return for support or donations.

With regards to lyrical content, there are a few songs that may not be suitable for children. Therefore, we have created a Children's MP3 genre in the MP3 section that is appropriate for children. The "Children" MP3 genre contains songs that are sung or backed by a children's choir or is appropriate for children. Our recommended songs in this genre include "Beanie For Peace", "My Child" and "There Is A Way".

Q:  Where can I buy the CDs of some of the songs that are featured on this web site?
A:

Since we have no plans to release a compilation CD of songs from this project, you can either buy CDs from the artist's web site or buy one of the peace-theme CDs that are featured in our Peace CDs section.
